Claudia Leisinger REPORTAGE

Thakna Jigme Sangpo

“To be here in India, receiving the Empowerment and meeting so many fellow countrymen, is wonderful. India is a very important place for Buddhists. I also had an audience with his Holiness. But I am also a bit sad because we hold events in exile and cannot gather and celebrate like this in our own country.”

“I know that two near relatives of mineare here at the Kalachakra. I already had their names called out on the P.A system, asking them to meet me, but they are too afraid to, because it could be dangerous when they return to Tibet. I haven’t met them yet.”

“Because I am already 79-years old Iam not asking myself anymore what I miss about Tibet but I am preparing myself for death and try to practice the dharma every day.”

Sentenced to 41 years in prison for fighting for Tibetan independence and speaking up on behalf of the 10th Panchen Lama, who was slandered and imprisonment by the Chinese authorities. Released after 37 years on medical parole in March 2002.
